Narrated Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): We were with a funeral in al-Baqi' when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came. He (peace be upon him) sat down, and we too sat around him (peace be upon him). He (peace be upon him) had a stick with him. He (peace be upon him) sat with his head lowered and began making lines on the ground with the stick. Then he (peace be upon him) said, "There is none among you, no soul, for whom Allah has not already written its place in Paradise or in Hell, and has not already written whether it is fortunate or wretched." A man said, "O Messenger of Allah! Then why should we not rely on what is written for us and abandon deeds (that is, acting in the face of the decree is pointless; whatever is destined will surely come to pass)?" So he (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever is among the fortunate will move toward the deeds of the righteous, and whoever is among the wretched will move toward the deeds of the wretched." And he said, "Do deeds; each one has been made easy. As for the righteous, they will be made easy for the deeds of the righteous, and as for the wicked, they will be made easy for the deeds of the wicked." Then he (peace be upon him) recited this verse: "As for the one who gives charity and fears (Allah) and affirms the best religion (that is, Islam) as true, We shall ease him toward ease; and as for the one who is miserly and deems himself self-sufficient and denies the best religion, We shall ease him toward the hard path of disbelief." (al-Layl: 5-10).

سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہہم بقیع میں ایک جنازہ کے ساتھ تھے کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمتشریف لائے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبیٹھ گئے اور ہم بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے گرد بیٹھ گئے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس ایک چھڑی تھی۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسر جھکا کر بیٹھے اور چھڑی سے زمین پر لکیریں کرنے لگے۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم میں سے کوئی ایسا نہیں ہے کوئی جان ایسی نہیں ہے جس کا ٹھکانہ اللہ نے جنت میں یا جہنم میں نہ لکھ دیا ہو اور یہ نہ لکھ دیا ہو کہ وہ نیک بخت ہے یا بدبخت ہے۔ ایک شخص بولا کہ یا رسول اللہ! پھر ہم اپنے لکھے پر کیوں بھروسہ نہ کریں اور عمل کو چھوڑ دیں (یعنی تقدیر کے روبرو عمل کرنا بےفائدہ ہے جو قسمت میں ہے وہ ضرور ہو گا)؟ تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ جو نیک بختوں میں سے ہے وہ نیکوں والے کام کی طرف چلے گا اور جو بدبختوں میں سے ہے وہ بدبختوں والے کاموں کی طرف چلے گا۔ اور فرمایا کہ عمل کرو۔ ہر ایک کو آسانی دی گئی ہے لیکن نیکوں کے لئے آسان کیا جائے گا نیکوں کے اعمال کرنا اور بدوں کے لئے آسان کیا جائے گا بدوں کے اعمال کرنا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے یہ آیت پڑھی کہ”پس جس نے خیرات کی اور ڈرا اور بہتر دین (یعنی اسلام) کو سچا جانا، پس اس پر ہم نیکی کرنا آسان کر دیں گے اور جو بخیل ہوا اور بےپرواہ بنا اور نیک دین کو اس نے جھٹلایا تو ہم اس پر کفر کی سخت راہ کو آسان کر دیں گے“(اللیل: 5...10)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1844]
