Masruq said: I went to the Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her), and with her was seated Sayyiduna Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), reciting a verse from one of his odes that he had composed of several couplets. The verse is this: "Chaste and possessed of intelligence, upon whom is no suspicion; she rises in the morning hungry for the flesh of the heedless" (that is, she does not backbite anyone, for backbiting is as though eating his flesh). The Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her), said to Sayyiduna Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him): But you are not such (that is, you backbite people). Masruq said: I said to the Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her): Why do you let Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him) come to you, when Allah the Exalted has said concerning him: "And the one among them who took upon himself the greater part (that is, the greatest part of slandering the Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her)) — for him is a great punishment." (Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) was among those who slandered the Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her); then he (peace be upon him) applied to him the prescribed penalty.) The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said: What punishment is greater than this, that he has become blind? And she said: He used to answer on behalf of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) against the disbelievers, or satirize them. (For this reason I permit him to come to me.)

مسروق کہتے ہیں کہمیں ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس گیا تو ان کے پاس سیدنا حسان بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ بیٹھے اپنی غزل میں سے ایک شعر سنا رہے تھے جو چند بیتوں کی انہوں نے کہی تھی۔ وہ شعر یہ ہے کہ:”پاک ہیں اور عقل والی ان پہ کچھ تہمت نہیں۔ صبح کو اٹھتی ہیں بھوکی غافلوں کے گوشت سے“(یعنی کسی کی غیبت نہیں کرتیں کیونکہ غیبت کرنا گویا اس کا گوشت کھانا ہے)۔ ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے سیدنا حسان رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ لیکن تو ایسا نہیں ہے (یعنی تو لوگوں کی غیبت کرتا ہے)۔ مسروق نے کہا کہ میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہا کہ آپ حسان رضی اللہ عنہ کو اپنے پاس کیوں آنے دیتی ہو حالانکہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی شان میں فرمایا ہے کہ”وہ شخص جس نے ان میں سے بڑی بات (یعنی ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا پر تہمت لگانے) کا بیڑا اٹھایا اس کے واسطے بڑا عذاب ہے۔ (حسان بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ ان لوگوں میں شریک تھے جنہوں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا پر تہمت لگائی تھی۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کو حد لگائی) ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ اس سے زیادہ عذاب کیا ہو گا کہ وہ نابینا ہو گیا ہے اور کہا کہ وہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی طرف سے کافروں کی جوابدہی کرتا تھا یا ہجو کرتا تھا۔ (اس لئے اس کو اپنے پاس آنے کی اجازت دیتی ہوں)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1715]
