It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a Jewish man and a Jewish woman who had committed adultery were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to the Jews and asked: "What is the punishment for adultery in the Torah?" They said: "We blacken both their faces and mount them (on donkeys) in such a way that their faces are toward the donkeys' tails." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Well then, if you are truthful, bring the Torah." They brought it and began to read. When the reader reached the verse of stoning, the one who was reading placed his hand over that verse and read what came before and after it. Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) (a scholar of the Jews who had become a Muslim) was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he said: "Tell this man to lift his hand." He lifted his hand, and the verse of stoning was beneath his hand. Then by the order of the Prophet (peace be upon him) the two of them were stoned. Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I was among those who stoned them, and I saw the man shielding the woman with his body from the stones (that is, taking the stones upon himself out of love)." الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس ایک یہودی مرد اور ایک یہودی عورت کو لایا گیا جنہوں نے زنا کیا تھا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمیہود کے پاس تشریف لے گئے اور پوچھا کہ تورات میں زنا کی کیا سزا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا ہم دونوں کا منہ کالا کر کے (گدھوں پر) اس طرح سوار کرتے ہیں کہ ان کا منہ (گدھوں) کی دم کی طرف ہوتا ہے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا اچھا تو اگر تم سچ کہتے ہو، تورات لاؤ۔ وہ لے کر آئے اور پڑھنے لگے، جب رجم کی آیت آئی تو جو شخص پڑھ رہا تھا اس نے اپنا ہاتھ اس آیت پر رکھ دیا اور آگے اور پیچھے کا مضمون پڑھ دیا۔ سیدنا عبداللہ بن سلام رضی اللہ عنہ (یہودیوں کے عالم جو مسلمان ہو گئے تھے) وہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ تھے، انہوں نے کہا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس شخص سے کہئے کہ اپنا ہاتھ اٹھائے۔ اس نے ہاتھ اٹھایا تو رجم کی آیت ہاتھ کے نیچے تھی۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے حکم سے وہ دونوں رجم کئے گئے۔ سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ میں ان لوگوں میں سے تھا جنہوں نے ان کو رجم کیا میں نے دیکھا کہ مرد اپنی آڑ سے عورت کو پتھروں سے بچا رہا تھا۔ (یعنی پتھر اپنے اوپر لیتا محبت سے)[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1040]
