Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "We were forbidden from mourning for more than three days, except for a husband — four months and ten days. During that period, we would not apply kohl, perfume, or wear dyed garments, except for a garment of asb (Yemeni cloth). We were given concession when purifying ourselves to use a small piece of incense."
