Hadrat Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: I became ill in Makkah with a severe illness. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came to visit me. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have wealth and only my daughter inherits from me. Should I give two-thirds of my wealth in charity?" He stated: "No." I said: "Half?" He stated: "No." I said: "One-third?" He stated: "One-third, and one-third is much. Indeed, if you leave your heirs wealthy, it is better than leaving them poor and begging from people. And you will not spend anything seeking the Face of Allah except that you will be rewarded for it, even the morsel you put in your wife's mouth." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, will I be left behind after my Companions?" He stated: "You will not be left behind. Whenever you do a righteous deed seeking thereby the Face of Allah, you will be raised in rank and elevated. Perhaps you will be left behind so that some people may benefit through you and others be harmed through you." Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "O Allah, complete the migration of my Companions and do not turn them back on their heels. But the unfortunate Sa'd ibn Khawlah" - the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) pitied him because he died in Makkah.
