Hadrat 'A'ishah (may Allah be well pleased with her) narrated: The Jews used to say that when there is an eclipse, a great person among the people of the earth dies. So when the sun eclipsed during the time of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stood and prayed. He stood for a very long time, then he bowed for a very long time, then he raised his head and stood for a very long time, but less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a very long time, but less than the first bowing. Then he raised his head, then he prostrated for a very long time. Then he did in the second Rak'ah as he did in the first. Then he finished, and the sun had become clear. He stated: "The sun and moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for his life. When you see that, glorify Allah and pray."
