Al-Hasan bin Sufyan narrated to us, saying: Abdul-A'la bin Hammad narrated to us, saying: Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us from Thabit from Anas, who said: I brought Abdullah bin Abi Talhah Al-Ansari when he was born to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wrapped in a cloak, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was treating a camel of his with tar. He said: "Do you have dates with you?" I said: Yes. So I handed him some dates, and he put them in his mouth and chewed them. Then he opened the baby's mouth and put them in his mouth, and the baby began licking it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The love of the Ansar is dates," and he named him Abdullah.
