Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated — through Yahya ibn Ya'mar and Ibn Umar: Yahya ibn Ya'mar said, 'I went out with Humayd ibn Abdur-Rahman al-Himyari on Hajj or Umrah and we said, "Perhaps we will meet one of the Companions of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and ask him about divine decree." We met Ibn Umar and I took charge of speaking. We said, "O Abu Abdur-Rahman, some people have appeared among us who recite the Quran and pursue knowledge deeply, and they claim there is no divine decree and that matters are new." He said, "If you meet them, inform them that I am free of them and they are free of me. By the One by Whom Ibn Umar swears, even if one of them spent the equivalent of Uhud in gold, it would not be accepted from him until he believes in divine decree." Then he said, "Umar ibn al-Khattab narrated to me: One day, while the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was sitting, a man with an intensely black beard and intensely white garments came and placed his knee against the knee of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and said, 'O Muhammad, what is Islam?' He stated: 'The testimony that there is no god but Allah, establishing the prayer, paying the zakah, fasting in Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House.' He said, 'You have spoken the truth.' We were amazed that he asked him and then confirmed him. He said, 'Tell me, what is faith?' He stated: 'That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the resurrection after death, and the divine decree — its good and its evil, its sweet and its bitter.' He said, 'You have spoken the truth.' We were amazed that he asked him and confirmed him. He said, 'Tell me, what is excellence (ihsan)?' He stated: 'That you worship Allah as if you see Him, for even if you do not see Him, He sees you.' He said, 'Tell me, when is the Hour?' He stated: 'The one asked knows no more than the one asking.' He said, 'Then what are its signs?' He stated: 'That the slave-girl gives birth to her mistress, and that you see the barefoot, naked shepherds competing in building tall structures.' He then departed. Umar said, 'The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) met me after three days and said: "O Umar, do you know who the man was?" I said, "No." He stated: "That was Jibril; he came to teach you your religion."'"
الترجمة الأردية
حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے — یحییٰ بن یعمر اور ابنِ عمر کے واسطے سے — روایت ہے: یحییٰ بن یعمر نے کہا: میں اور حمید بن عبدالرحمان حمیری حج یا عمرے کے لیے نکلے اور ہم نے کہا: شاید ہمیں محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے کسی صحابی سے ملاقات ہو جائے اور ہم ان سے تقدیر کے بارے میں پوچھیں۔ ہمیں ابنِ عمر سے ملاقات ہوئی اور میں نے بات شروع کی۔ ہم نے کہا: اے ابو عبدالرحمان! ہمارے یہاں کچھ لوگ ہیں جو قرآن پڑھتے ہیں اور علم کی گہرائی میں جاتے ہیں اور دعویٰ کرتے ہیں کہ کوئی تقدیر نہیں اور معاملات نئے ہیں۔ انہوں نے فرمایا: جب ان سے ملو تو انہیں بتا دو کہ ابنِ عمر ان سے بری ہے اور وہ اس سے بری ہیں۔ اس ذات کی قسم جس کی ابنِ عمر قسم کھاتا ہے! اگر ان میں سے کوئی اُحد پہاڑ کے برابر سونا خرچ کرے تب بھی اس سے قبول نہیں کیا جائے گا جب تک وہ تقدیر پر ایمان نہ لائے۔ پھر فرمایا: مجھے حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے حدیث بیان کی: ایک دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم بیٹھے تھے کہ ایک شخص آیا جس کی داڑھی شدید سیاہ اور کپڑے شدید سفید تھے۔ اس نے اپنا گھٹنا نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے گھٹنے سے لگایا اور کہا: اے محمد! اسلام کیا ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: اس بات کی گواہی کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، رمضان کے روزے رکھنا اور بیت اللہ کا حج کرنا۔ اس نے کہا: آپ نے سچ فرمایا۔ ہمیں تعجب ہوا کہ وہ خود سوال کرتا ہے اور خود تصدیق بھی کرتا ہے۔ اس نے کہا: مجھے بتائیے ایمان کیا ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ کہ تم اللہ پر، اس کے فرشتوں پر، اس کی کتابوں پر، اس کے رسولوں پر، موت کے بعد اٹھائے جانے پر اور تقدیر کے خیر و شر اور اس کے میٹھے اور کڑوے پر ایمان لاؤ۔ اس نے کہا: آپ نے سچ فرمایا۔ اس نے کہا: مجھے بتائیے احسان کیا ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ کہ تم اللہ کی عبادت ایسے کرو جیسے تم اسے دیکھ رہے ہو، اگر تم اسے نہیں دیکھ رہے تو وہ تمہیں دیکھ رہا ہے۔ اس نے کہا: مجھے بتائیے قیامت کب ہوگی؟ ارشاد فرمایا: جس سے پوچھا جا رہا ہے وہ پوچھنے والے سے زیادہ نہیں جانتا۔ اس نے کہا: اس کی نشانیاں کیا ہیں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ کہ لونڈی اپنی مالکن کو جنے اور ننگے پاؤں ننگے بدن چرواہوں کو اونچی عمارتوں میں ایک دوسرے سے بڑھتے دیکھو۔ پھر وہ چلا گیا۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: تین دن بعد نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مجھ سے ملے اور فرمایا: اے عمر! کیا تم جانتے ہو وہ شخص کون تھا؟ میں نے عرض کیا: نہیں۔ فرمایا: وہ جبریل تھے جو تمہیں تمہارا دین سکھانے آئے تھے۔
