Hadrat Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrated from the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that he used to say: "You shall remain in good as long as the people of your desert are independent of the people of your cities." He stated: "The years of drought shall drive them until they are with you in the towns, and you shall not be able to prevent them due to the multitude who seek shelter among you." He stated: "They shall say: 'For so long we went hungry while you were fed, and for so long we suffered while you prospered — so share with us today.' The earth shall become difficult for you until the people of your cities shall envy the people of your desert because of the earth's harshness." He stated: "The earth shall tilt upon you a tilt from which whoever perishes shall perish and whoever survives shall survive, until slaves are freed. Then the earth shall calm down after that until those who freed (slaves) shall regret it." He stated: Then the earth shall tilt upon you yet another tilt, and whoever perishes shall perish and whoever survives shall survive, until slaves are freed. Then the earth shall calm, and they shall say: 'Our Lord, we shall free! Our Lord, we shall free!' But Allah shall declare them liars: 'You have lied, you have lied — I shall free.' He stated: "The latter part of this Ummah shall surely be tested with earthquakes. If they repent, Allah shall accept their repentance." He stated: And if they return (to sin), Allah shall bring upon them again earthquakes, pelting, stoning, sinking into the earth, disfigurement, and thunderbolts. When it is said: 'The people have perished, the people have perished,' then indeed they have perished. Allah the Exalted shall not punish a nation until it betrays. They asked: What is its betrayal? He stated: "They acknowledge their sins but do not repent. And hearts shall settle firmly upon what is in them of righteousness or wickedness, just as a tree settles upon what is in it, until no doer of good can increase in goodness and no evildoer can seek pardon." That is because Allah (glorified and exalted is He) said: 'Nay, but what they used to earn has rusted upon their hearts' (Quran 83:14).

حضرت عبد اللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے روایت کیا کہ آپ فرمایا کرتے تھے: «جب تک تمہارے صحرائیوں کو شہریوں کی ضرورت نہ ہو تم خیر میں رہو گے۔» فرمایا: «سالوں کی قحط انہیں ہانکے گی یہاں تک کہ وہ تمہارے ساتھ شہروں میں ہوں گے، اور تم ان کو روک نہ سکو گے ان کی کثرت کی وجہ سے جو تمہارے ہاں پناہ لیں گے۔» فرمایا: «وہ کہیں گے: مدتوں ہم بھوکے رہے اور تم سیر تھے، مدتوں ہم تکلیف میں رہے اور تم عیش میں تھے، آج ہمارے ساتھ شریک ہو۔ زمین تم پر تنگ ہو جائے گی یہاں تک کہ تمہارے شہری تمہارے صحرائیوں پر رشک کریں گے زمین کی سختی کی وجہ سے۔» فرمایا: «زمین تم پر ایک جھکاؤ جھکے گی جس سے جو ہلاک ہونے والا ہو ہلاک ہوگا اور جو بچنے والا ہو بچ جائے گا، یہاں تک کہ غلام آزاد کیے جائیں۔ پھر اس کے بعد زمین تمہارے ساتھ پرسکون ہوگی یہاں تک کہ آزاد کرنے والے پچھتائیں۔» فرمایا: پھر زمین اس کے بعد تم پر ایک اور جھکاؤ جھکے گی جس میں جو ہلاک ہونے والا ہو ہلاک ہوگا اور جو بچنے والا ہو بچ جائے گا، یہاں تک کہ غلام آزاد کیے جائیں۔ پھر زمین پرسکون ہوگی اور وہ کہیں گے: ہمارے رب! ہم آزاد کرتے ہیں! ہمارے رب! ہم آزاد کرتے ہیں! لیکن اللہ انہیں جھٹلائے گا: تم نے جھوٹ بولا، تم نے جھوٹ بولا — میں آزاد کروں گا۔ فرمایا: «اس امت کے آخری لوگ زلزلوں سے آزمائے جائیں گے۔ اگر انہوں نے توبہ کی تو اللہ ان کی توبہ قبول فرمائے گا۔» فرمایا: اور اگر وہ پھر (گناہ کی طرف) لوٹے تو اللہ ان پر زلزلے، بارش، پتھراؤ، زمین میں دھنسنا، مسخ اور بجلیاں واپس لائے گا۔ جب کہا جائے: لوگ ہلاک ہو گئے، لوگ ہلاک ہو گئے — تو بے شک وہ ہلاک ہو گئے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ کسی امت کو عذاب نہ دے گا جب تک وہ دغا نہ کرے۔ لوگوں نے پوچھا: اس کی دغا کیا ہے؟ فرمایا: «گناہوں کا اعتراف کرتے ہیں مگر توبہ نہیں کرتے۔ اور دل اپنی نیکی اور بدکاری پر ایسے جم جائیں گے جیسے درخت اپنی جگہ جم جاتا ہے — یہاں تک کہ نہ نیک آدمی نیکی بڑھا سکے اور نہ بدکار معافی مانگ سکے۔» یہ اس لیے کہ اللہ عزوجل نے فرمایا: ﴿بلکہ ان کے دلوں پر ان کے اعمال کا زنگ چڑھ گیا ہے﴾ (المطففین: 14)۔
