Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up to pray, and we stood up with him (peace be upon him). Meanwhile a Bedouin began to supplicate within the prayer: O Allah! Have mercy on me and on Muhammad (peace be upon him) alone, and on no one else. After giving the salam, he (peace be upon him) said to the Bedouin: "You have narrowed a vast thing (i.e., the mercy of Allah)."

سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہایک مرتبہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز پڑھنے کے لیے کھڑے ہوئے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ ہم بھی کھڑے ہوئے۔ اتنے میں ایک گنوار نماز ہی میں دعا مانگنے لگا کہ یااللہ! مجھ پر اور محمدصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر رحم کر بس اور کسی پر مت کر۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سلام پھیر کر گنوار سے فرمایا:”تو نے وسیع چیز (یعنی اللہ کی رحمت) کو تنگ کر دیا۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 2018]
