Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "No one can enter Paradise by virtue of his (good) deeds." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Not even you, O Messenger of Allah (cannot enter Paradise by virtue of good deeds)? So he (peace be upon him) said: "Yes, not even I (can enter). Unless Allah covers me in His (mantle of) mercy, it would be better. Now you should adopt moderation and seek the nearness of Allah. And let no one wish for death, because if a person is righteous, he may increase in his righteousness (through life), and if he is a sinner, perhaps he may repent."
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سنا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے:”کوئی اپنے (نیک) عمل کی وجہ سے جنت میں نہیں جا سکتا۔“صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم نے عرض کی کہ کیا آپ بھی یا رسول اللہ! (نیک عمل کی وجہ سے جنت میں نہیں جا سکتے؟ تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے) فرمایا:”ہاں! میں بھی“(نہیں جا سکتا)۔ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ مجھے اپنے (دامن) رحمت میں چھپا لے تو بہتر ہے۔ اب تمہیں چاہیے کہ میانہ روی اختیار کرو اور اللہ کا قرب حاصل کرو اور چاہیے کہ موت کی آرزو کوئی نہ کرے کیونکہ اگر آدمی نیک ہے تو (زندگی سے) اپنی نیکی میں ترقی کرے گا اور اگر گنہگار ہے تو شاید توبہ کر لے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1960]
