Sufyan ibn 'Uyayna was asked about the hadith that the Prophet (peace be upon him) narrated from his Lord: 'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward for it.' Ibn 'Uyayna said: 'This is the finest and most precise of hadiths. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah the Exalted will settle accounts with His servant and will pay off the injustices owed against him from all his other deeds until nothing remains except fasting. Then Allah will bear what remains of the injustices and admit him to Paradise through fasting.'
