أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ أنبأ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ كُنَّا أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نُخْرِجَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ الْعَوَاتِقَ ذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَشْهَدْنَ جَمَاعَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَدُعَاءَهُمْ وَيَعْتَزِلْنَ مُصَلَّاهُمْ

Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us... from Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar, who said: I witnessed the Eid with Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He began with the prayer before the sermon, then said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade fasting on these two days - as for the Day of al-Fitr, it is the day you break your fast from Ramadan. As for the Day of al-Adha, eat from your sacrifices.
