أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ قُتَيْلَةَ بِنْتِ صَيْفِيِّ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَتْ جَاءَ حَبْرٌ مِنَ الْأَحْبَارِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ نِعْمَ الْقَوْمُ أَنْتُمْ لَوْلَا أَنْتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَمَا ذَلِكُمْ؟ قَالَ تَقُولُونَ إِذَا حَلَفْتُمْ بِالْكَعْبَةِ فَأَمْهَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ حَلَفَ فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ نِعْمَ الْقَوْمُ أَنْتُمْ لَوْلَا أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَشَاءَ فُلَانٌ فَأَمْهَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ فَلْيَجْعَلْ بَيْنَهُمَا ثُمَّ شِئْتُ
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Abu al-Hasan ibn 'Abdan informed us... from Ahmad ibn 'Ubayd al-Saffar... from 'Abdullah ibn Raja'... from al-Mas'udi, from Ma'bad ibn Khalid, from 'Abdullah ibn Yasar, from Qutaylah bint Sayfi al-Juhaniyyah who said: 'A rabbi came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: O Muhammad, what fine people you would be if you did not associate partners with Allah! He said: Glory be to Allah! What is that? The rabbi said: You say when you swear an oath: By the Ka'bah. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) reflected for a while, then said: Whoever swears, let him swear by the Lord of the Ka'bah. Then the rabbi said: What fine people you would be if you did not say: What Allah wills and what so-and-so wills. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) reflected for a while, then said: Whoever says: What Allah wills, let him put between them: then I willed.'
