وَأَصَحُّ أَثَرٍ رُوِيَ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ مَا أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أُسَيْدُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مَعْدِيكَرِبَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ لَا تَصُفُّوا بَيْنَ الْأَسَاطِينِ وَلَا تُصَلِّ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ قَوْمٌ يَمْتَرُونَ أَوْ يَلْعَبُونَ وَهَذَا الْمَوْقُوفُ فِي قَوْمٍ يَمْتَرُونَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَيُلْهِيهِ سَمَاعُ أَصْوَاتِهِمْ وَكَلَامِهِمْ عَنِ الْخُشُوعِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَيَتَّقِي ذَلِكَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ فَأَمَّا الصَّلَاةُ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ نَائِمٌ فَلَا يُحْتَشَمُ مِنْهُ فَقَدْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهَا وَذَلِكَ فِيمَا

The most authentic report narrated in this chapter is what Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr informed us, they said: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Usayd ibn Asim narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn Hafs narrated to us from Sufyan from Abu Ishaq from Ma'dikarib al-Hamdani who said: Abdullah — meaning Ibn Mas'ud — said: Do not line up between the pillars, and do not pray while people in front of you are disputing or playing.
