أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ {لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنَا مَنْسَكًا هُمْ نَاسِكُوهُ} [الحج 67] قَالَ ذَبْحٌ هُمْ ذَابِحُوهُ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو رَافِعٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا ضَحَّى اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ فَإِذَا خَطَبَ وَصَلَّى ذَبَحَ أَحَدَ الْكَبْشَيْنِ بِنَفْسِهِ بِالْمُدْيَةِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي جَمِيعًا مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ ثُمَّ أَتَى بِالْآخَرِ فَذَبَحَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ثُمَّ يُطْعِمُهُمَا الْمَسَاكِينَ وَيَأْكُلُ هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ مِنْهُمَا فَمَكَثْنَا سِنِينَ قَدْ كَفَانَا اللهُ الْغُرْمَ وَالْمُؤْنَةَ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ يُضَحِّي وَبِمَعْنَاهُ

Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Yunus al-Dabbi narrated to us, Abu Amir al-Aqadi narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Muhammad al-Anbari narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil ibn Abi Talib, from Ali ibn al-Husayn regarding the verse: "For every nation We have appointed a rite that they may perform" [Al-Hajj 67], he said: A sacrifice that they are to slaughter. Abu Rafi' narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whenever he sacrificed, would buy two fat, salt-and-pepper colored, horned rams. After he delivered the sermon and prayed, he would slaughter one of the two rams himself with the knife, then say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of my entire nation - whoever bears witness to Your oneness and bears witness to my conveyance of the message." Then the other was brought and he slaughtered it, then said: "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." Then he would feed them to the poor and he and his family would eat from them. And we remained for years, Allah having sufficed us the expense and cost - no one from Banu Hashim would sacrifice.
