Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us > Muhammad ibn Bakr > Abu Dawud > Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Thabit al-Marwazi > Ali ibn Husayn > his father > Yazid al-Nahwi > Ikrimah > Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said regarding the verse: {Allah has pardoned you; why did you grant them permission before it became clear to you who were truthful and you knew the liars? Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day do not ask your permission to strive with their wealth and their lives. And Allah is Knowing of the righteous. Only those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day ask your permission, and their hearts are in doubt, so they waver in their doubt} [9:44]. This was abrogated by the verse in Surah al-Nur: {The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and, when they are with him on a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his permission. Those who ask your permission are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for some affair of theirs, give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful} [24:62]. And likewise.
