Abu al-Qasim Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Iyadi informed us in Baghdad, from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Yusuf ibn Khallad al-Nasibi, from al-Harith ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Usamah, from Abd al-Wahhab ibn Ata', from Abd al-Malik ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Jurayj, from Yunus ibn Yusuf, from Sulayman ibn Yasar who said: The people dispersed from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Nabil, a brother of the people of al-Sham, said to him: O Abu Hurayrah, narrate to us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: The first people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection are three: A man who was martyred — he will be brought and shown his blessings, and he will recognize them. He will be asked: What did you do with them? He will say: I fought in Your cause until I was martyred. He will be told: You lie. You only wanted it to be said that so-and-so is brave, and it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face and thrown into the Fire. A man who learned knowledge and recited the Quran — he will be brought and shown his blessings, and he will recognize them. He will be asked: What did you do with them? He will say: I learned knowledge and recited the Quran and taught it for Your sake. He will be told: You lie. You only wanted it to be said that so-and-so is learned and so-and-so is a reciter, and it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face into the Fire. A man to whom Allah gave various kinds of wealth — he will be brought and shown his blessings, and he will recognize them. He will be asked: What did you do with them? He will say: I did not leave any avenue that You love to have wealth spent in except that I spent in it for Your sake. He will be told: You lie. You only wanted it to be said that so-and-so is generous, and it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face and thrown into the Fire.
