Abu Tahir al-Faqih informed us, from Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Qattan, from Abu al-Azhar, from Abu Amir al-Aqadi, from Hisham ibn Sa'd; and Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu al-Abbas al-Umawi, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Hakam, from Ibn Wahb, from Hisham ibn Sa'd, from Sa'id ibn Abi Hilal, from Ibn Abi Dhubab, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed by a mountain pass with a spring of fresh water and was pleased by its beauty and sweetness. He said: If only I could withdraw from people and settle in this pass. Then he said: I will not do so until I consult the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who said: Do not do that, for the standing of one of you in the cause of Allah is better than his prayer at home for sixty years. Would you not like Allah to forgive you and admit you to Paradise? Go forth in the cause of Allah. Whoever fights in the cause of Allah for as long as the time between two milkings of a she-camel, Paradise is guaranteed for him.
