Qabisah ibn al-Mukhariq said: "I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) seeking help for a financial guarantee I had assumed. He said: 'Asking is prohibited except in three cases: a man who has assumed a financial guarantee — asking is lawful for him until he fulfills it, then he should refrain; a man who has been struck by a calamity that destroyed his wealth — asking is lawful for him until he attains subsistence; and a man afflicted by poverty to the point that three people of discernment from his community testify that he is in need — asking is lawful for him until he attains subsistence. Anything beyond that is unlawful.'"
