وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ أنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَتَّابٍ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ثنا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ حِينَ طُعِنَ قَالَ إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ فِيَ الْجَدِّ رَأْيًا فَإِنْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَنْ تَتَّبِعُوهُ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ إِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَكَ فَإِنَّهُ رُشْدٌ وَإِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَ الشَّيْخِ قَبْلَكَ فَنِعْمَ ذُو الرَّأْيِ كَانَ
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qattan informed us: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Attab narrated to us: al-Qasim ibn Abdullah ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us: Ibn Abi Uwais narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim ibn Uqbah narrated from his uncle Musa ibn Uqbah: Urwah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us that Marwan ibn al-Hakam told him that when Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was stabbed, he said: 'I have formed an opinion regarding the grandfather. If you see fit to follow it, then follow it.' Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'If we follow your opinion, it is guidance, and if we follow the opinion of the elder before you, he was an excellent man of judgment.'
