The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "A man from the Children of Israel said: 'I will give charity tonight.' He went out and placed his charity in the hand of a prostitute. The next morning, people talked about how charity had been given to a prostitute. Then he went out with money again and placed it in the hand of a thief. The next morning, the people talked about how charity had been given to a thief. Then he went out with money again and placed it in the hand of a rich man. He said: 'If I wished, I would say he did not know where he placed it.' The man turned to himself and was shown in a dream: 'Your charity has been accepted. As for the prostitute, perhaps she will abstain from her fornication. As for the thief, perhaps it will make him independent from stealing. As for the rich man, perhaps he will reflect and spend from his own wealth.'"
