Abdullah ibn Shaqiq said: "I stayed in Madinah with Abu Hurayrah for a year. One day, while we were near the chamber of Aisha, he said to me: 'I remember when we had no clothing except torn striped garments, and days would pass when one of us could not find food to sustain himself, until one of us would tie a stone to the hollow of his stomach and then bind it with his garment to keep himself upright. One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) distributed dates among us, and each of us received seven dates, among which was a dry, shriveled one. Nothing would have pleased me more than to have a good date in its place.' I asked: 'Why?' He said: 'It strengthens my chewing.' Then he asked me: 'Where have you come from?' I said: 'From Syria.' He said: 'Did you see the rock of Moses?' I said: 'What is the rock of Moses?' He said: 'The Children of Israel said something about Moses regarding what was under his garments concerning his private parts. So he placed his garments on a rock while bathing, and the rock moved away with his garments. He ran after it saying: "O rock, return my garments!" until it brought him before the Children of Israel, and they saw that he was well-formed and handsome in physique. He struck it three times, and by the One in Whose hand is Abu Hurayrah's soul, if I had looked, I would have seen the marks of Moses' strikes on it.'"
