حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَنْهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ حَبَلِ الْحَبَلَةِ وَذَاكَ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانُوا يَبِيعُونَ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْعَ فَنَهَاهُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ.

Yazid told us, Muhammad informed us, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah forbid the sale of "habal al-habalah" [the unborn offspring of an unborn animal] - that was because the people of the pre-Islamic era used to make that sale, so he forbade them from it.
