Isma'il told us, Ayyub told us, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar - I do not know it except as from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him - who said, "Whoever swears an oath and makes an exception, he has the choice: if he wishes he may proceed with his oath, and if he wishes he may withdraw without being guilty of breaking the oath," or he said, "without blame." Abu Kamil told us, Hammad told us, from Ayyub, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "When one of you swears an oath," and he mentioned it.
