حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ جُدَامَةَ بِنْتِ وَهْبٍ أُخْتِ عُكَّاشَةَ قَالَتْ حَضَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَاسٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَنْ الْغِيلَةِ فَنَظَرْتُ فِي الرُّومِ وَفَارِسَ فَإِذَا هُمْ يُغِيلُونَ أَوْلَادَهُمْ وَلَا يَضُرُّ أَوْلَادَهُمْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ سَأَلُوهُ عَنْ الْعَزْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاكَ الْوَأْدُ الْخَفِيُّ وَهُوَ { وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ }.

Abdullah ibn Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id, meaning Ibn Abi Ayyub, narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Aswad narrated to me, from Urwah, from Aisha, from Judamah bint Wahb, the sister of Ukkashah, who said: I was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) among the people, and he was saying: "I had intended to prohibit ghilah (intercourse with a nursing wife), but I observed the Romans and the Persians, and they practice ghilah with their children, and it does not harm their children at all." Then they asked him about withdrawal (azl), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "That is the hidden form of infanticide, and it is referred to in the verse: 'And when the female infant buried alive is asked.'"
