حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُكَانَةَ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَرَّاحِ مَوْلَى أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ أَنَّهَا حَدَّثَتْهُ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ كَمَا يَتَوَضَّئُونَ.

Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, Muhammad ibn Talhah ibn Yazid ibn Rukanah narrated to me, from Salim ibn Abdullah ibn Umar, from Abu al-Jarrah, the freed slave of Umm Habibah, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), from Umm Habibah, that she narrated from Zaynab bint Jahsh, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Were it not that I would impose hardship on my Ummah, I would have commanded them to use the siwak (tooth-stick) at the time of every prayer, just as they perform wudu."
