Yazid b. Harun told us, he said Sharik b. 'Abdullah informed us, from Jami' b. Abi Rashid, from Mundhir al-Thawri, from al-Hasan b. Muhammad, who said: A woman of the Ansar, still living today - "if you wish, I will take you in to her," I said, "No, just tell me" - told me: I went in to Umm Salamah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in to her as if he were angry. I hid from him behind the sleeve of my garment. He spoke words I did not understand. I said, "O Mother of the Believers, it seemed to me that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) come in angry." She said, "Yes; did you not hear what he said?" I said, "What did he say?" She said, "He said, 'When evil spreads in the land and is not checked, Allah, Mighty and Sublime, sends down His punishment upon the people of the land.'" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, but among them are the righteous?" She said he said, "Yes, and among them are the righteous - they will be afflicted with what afflicts the people, then Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will take them to His forgiveness and pleasure" - or "to His pleasure and forgiveness."
