Ya'qub told us: My father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Yazid ibn Ruman told me, from Urwah, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered that the slain be thrown into the well, and they were thrown into it, except for Umayyah ibn Khalaf, for he had swollen inside his armor, filling it, so when they went to move him he came apart, so they left him and threw over him enough earth and stones to hide him. When he had thrown them into the well, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood over them and said, "O people of the well, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true." His companions said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to dead people?" He said to them, "They surely know now that what I promised them is true." Aisha said: The people say, "They surely heard what you said to them," but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, only said, "They surely know now."
