حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْتَمَ لَيْلَةً مِنْ اللَّيَالِي بِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ وَهِيَ الَّتِي يَقُولُ النَّاسُ لَهَا صَلَاةُ الْعَتَمَةِ قَالَتْ فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى قَالَ عُمَرُ الصَّلَاةَ قَدْ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِأَهْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ حِينَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ غَيْرَكُمْ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْشُوَ الْإِسْلَامُ فِي النَّاسِ.

Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: Ibn Akhi Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from his uncle, who said: Urwa ibn al-Zubayr informed me that Aisha, wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, informed him that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, delayed the night prayer one night - the one people call the 'atama prayer. She said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, did not come out until Umar said, "The prayer! The women and children have fallen asleep." So the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, came out and said to the people of the mosque when he came out to them, "No one on earth awaits this prayer except you" - and that was before Islam had spread among the people.
