Hasan told us: Zuhayr told us, from Abu Ishaq, who said: I asked al-Aswad ibn Yazid about what A'ishah had told him concerning the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. She said: he used to sleep in the early part of the night and stay awake in prayer in its latter part. Then, if he had a need for his wife, he would fulfill his need, then get up before touching water. When the first call came, she said, he would spring up - and by Allah she did not say he got up and poured water over himself, and by Allah she did not say he performed the greater ablution - and I know best what you mean - and if he was not in a state of major impurity, he would perform ablution as a man does for prayer, then pray the two rak'ahs.
