Al-Hakam ibn Musa narrated to us: Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Rijal narrated to us — his father mentioning it from his mother, from Aishah, who said: A woman came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, my son and I bought the fruit of so-and-so's land; we counted it and gathered it — no, by the One Who honored you with what He honored you, we took nothing from it except a little that we ate ourselves or fed to a poor person, hoping for blessing, and so we fell short of what was owed. We came to ask him to waive what we were short, but he swore by Allah he would not waive anything for us." She said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "He has sworn not to do good" — three times. She said: This reached the owner of the dates, so he came to him and said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, if you wish I will waive what they were short, and if you wish, from the principal, whatever you wish." So he waived what they were short. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: I also heard it from al-Hakam.
