Abu Bakr al-Hanafi told us, saying: al-Dahhak b. Uthman told us, from Bukayr b. Abdullah b. al-Ashajj, who said: Awf b. Malik and Dhu al-Kala' entered the mosque of Jerusalem, and Awf said to him, "Is your cousin with you?" Dhu al-Kala' said, "Indeed he is among the best, or among the most righteous, of people." Awf said, "I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, 'None should preach except a commander, one who is commanded, or one who is pretentious.'"
