حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ وزَكَرِيَّا بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ مِنْ النَّقِيعِ لَيْسَ بِمُخَمَّرٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْلَا خَمَّرْتَهُ وَلَوْ بِعُودٍ تَعْرُضُهُ قَالَ أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ إِنَّمَا أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْأَسْقِيَةِ أَنْ تُوكَأَ وَبِالْأَبْوَابِ أَنْ تُغْلَقَ لَيْلًا وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ زَكَرِيَّا قَوْلَ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ بِاللَّيْلِ.

Jabir b. Abdullah related that Abu Humayd told him that he brought the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a cup of milk from al-Naqi' that was uncovered. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "If only you had covered it, even with a stick placed across it." Abu Humayd said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only commanded that water-skins be tied and doors be closed at night. [Zakariyya's version does not mention Abu Humayd's words "at night."]
