حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ الْبَرَّاءِ قَالَ أَخَّرَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ الصَّلَاةَ فَأَتَانِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَأَلْقَيْتُ لَهُ كُرْسِيًّا فَجَلَسَ عَلَيْهِ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ صَنِيعَ ابْنِ زِيَادٍ فَعَضَّ عَلَى شَفَتِهِ وَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي وَقَالَ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِي فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي كَمَا ضَرَبْتُ عَلَى فَخِذِكَ وَقَالَ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِي فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي كَمَا ضَرَبْتُ فَخِذَكَ فَقَالَ صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكَتْكَ مَعَهُمْ فَصَلِّ وَلَا تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ وَلَا أُصَلِّي.

Isma'il told us: Ayyub told us, from Abu al-Aliyah al-Barra', who said: Ibn Ziyad delayed the prayer, so Abd Allah ibn al-Samit came to me, and I set out a chair for him, and he sat on it. I mentioned to him what Ibn Ziyad had done, so he bit his lip and struck my thigh and said: I asked Abu Dharr as you have asked me, and he struck my thigh as I have struck your thigh, and said: I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as you have asked me, and he struck my thigh as I have struck your thigh, and said: "Pray the prayer at its proper time; but if it overtakes you while with them, then pray, and do not say, 'I have already prayed, so I will not pray again.'"
