Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us: al-A'mash narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from Abu Dharr, who said: I was walking with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the lava-field of Medina at nightfall, and we were looking toward Uhud. He said: "O Abu Dharr." I said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "It would not please me that Uhud there should be gold in my possession, and that three nights should pass over me with a dinar of it still remaining with me, except a dinar I set aside for a debt -- unless I distribute it among the servants of Allah like this, and like this, and like this" -- and he scattered [gesturing] to his right, in front of him, and to his left. He said: Then we walked on, and he said: "O Abu Dharr, those with the most wealth will be those with the least [reward] on the Day of Resurrection, except one who says [distributes] like this and like this and like this" -- and he scattered to his right, in front of him, and to his left. He said: Then we walked on, and he said: "O Abu Dharr, stay as you are until I come to you." He said: He went on until he disappeared from my sight. He said: Then I heard a commotion and a sound, and I said: "Perhaps something has happened to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: I was about to follow him, but then I remembered his words, "Do not move until I come to you," so I waited for him until he came, and I told him what I had heard. He said: "That was Gabriel, peace be upon him; he came to me and said: 'Whoever among your nation dies not associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.'" He said: I said: "Even if he committed adultery and stole?" He said: "Even if he committed adultery and stole."
