Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us: Fulayt al-Amiri narrated to me, from Jasrah al-Amiriyyah, from Abu Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed one night and recited a single verse until morning, bowing and prostrating with it: "If You punish them, they are indeed Your servants, and if You forgive them, indeed You are the Almighty, the Wise." When morning came, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you kept reciting this verse until morning, bowing and prostrating with it." He said: "I asked my Lord, Mighty and Majestic is He, for intercession for my nation, and He granted it to me, and it will reach, if Allah wills, whoever does not associate anything with Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He."
