Affan narrated to us: Khalid ibn al-Harith narrated to us -- and Abdullah narrated to us, who said: as-Salt ibn Mas'ud al-Jahdari narrated to us: Khalid ibn al-Harith narrated to us: Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja'far narrated to us: my father narrated to me, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from Abdullah ibn al-Harith, who said: I and Ubayy ibn Ka'b stood in the shade of the fortress-tower of Hassan, and Ubayy said to me: "Do you not see the people, their necks stretched out variously in pursuit of this world?" I said: "Yes indeed." He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "The Euphrates is about to uncover a mountain of gold, and when the people hear of it they will set out toward it. Whoever is present will say, 'By Allah, if we leave people to take from it, it will all be gone'; so the people will fight over it until ninety-nine out of every hundred are killed." And this is the wording of the hadith of Ubayy as narrated by Affan.
