Isma'il told us, Ayyub informed us, from Harun ibn Ri'ab, from Kinana ibn Nu'aym, from Qabisa ibn al-Mukhariq, who said: I incurred a debt of financial liability, so I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked him about it. He said, "Wait until the charity comes to us, and then either we will bear it for you, or we will help you with it." And he said: "Asking is not permissible except for three: a man who has taken on a debt of liability on behalf of his people, and asks for it until he pays it off, then he stops; a man who has been struck by a calamity that has destroyed his wealth, and asks until he obtains a sufficiency of living or enough to sustain him, then he stops; and a man who has been struck by poverty, and asks until he obtains a sufficiency of living or enough to sustain him, then he stops. Apart from these, any other kind of asking is forbidden gain -- O Qabisa, its taker consumes it as forbidden gain."
