And with the same chain, Abd al-Rahman said: We came as a delegation to Mu'awiyah to console him, together with Ziyad, and Abu Bakrah was with us. When we arrived, he was not as pleased with any delegation as he was with us. He said: "O Abu Bakrah, tell us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to be pleased by a good dream and would ask about it, and he said one day: 'Which of you has seen a dream?' A man from the people said: 'I saw a scale let down from the sky, and you were weighed in it along with Abu Bakr, and you outweighed Abu Bakr; then Abu Bakr and Umar were weighed in it, and Abu Bakr outweighed Umar; then Umar and Uthman were weighed in it, and Umar outweighed Uthman; then the scale was raised up.' The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was displeased by this - that is, by its beginning - and said: 'A caliphate of prophethood, then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, gives dominion to whomever He wills.'" He said: "So we were pushed by our napes and taken out. The next day we returned, and he said: 'O Abu Bakrah, tell us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.' He said: So he rebuked him with it, and we were pushed by our napes. Then on the third day we returned and he asked again. He said: So he rebuked him with it. Mu'awiyah said: 'Do you say we are kings? We are content with being kings.'"
