Isma'il narrated to us: al-Jurayri narrated to us: 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Bakra narrated to us, from his father, who said — and Isma'il said once: "We were sitting with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him," and he said: 'Shall I not inform you of the gravest of the major sins?' three times: 'Associating partners with God, Mighty and Majestic.'" He said: And the major sins were mentioned before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: "Associating partners with God, Mighty and Majestic, and disobedience to parents" — and he had been reclining, then he sat up — and said: "and false testimony, and false testimony, and false testimony" — or "false speech and false testimony." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, kept repeating it until we said: "If only he would stop."
