Ismail narrated to us, Abu Harun al-Ghanawi narrated to us, from Mutarrif, who said: Imran ibn Husayn said to me: 'O Mutarrif, by Allah, I used to think that if I wished, I could narrate from the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) for two consecutive days without repeating a hadith. But what has made me hesitant and reluctant is that some men from the Companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) — or some of the Companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) — I witnessed what they witnessed and heard what they heard, yet they narrate hadiths that are not exactly as they say. I know they do not intend anything but good, but I fear that things may become confused for me as they became confused for them.' He would sometimes say: 'If I were to tell you that I heard from the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) such-and-such, I believe I would be truthful.' And sometimes he would resolve and say: 'I heard the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) say such-and-such.' Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Nasr ibn Ali narrated to me, Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, from Abu Harun al-Ghanawi, who said: Hani al-Awar narrated to me, from Mutarrif, from Imran — he is Ibn Husayn — from the Prophet (peace be upon him), with a similar hadith. I told my father (may Allah have mercy on him), and he appreciated it and said: He added an extra narrator in it.
