Hisham b. Sa'id told us, Muhammad b. Muhajir - that is, the brother of Amr b. Muhajir - told us, he said: Aqil b. Shabib told me from Abu Wahb al-Jushami, who had companionship [with the Prophet], who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Name yourselves with the names of the prophets. The names most beloved to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, are Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman; the most truthful of them are Harith and Hammam; and the ugliest of them are Harb and Murra. Tether horses and wipe their forelocks and their hindquarters - or he said, their croups - and put collars on them, but do not put bowstrings on them as collars. And hold to every dark-bay horse with a blaze and white feet, or a chestnut with a blaze and white feet, or a black horse with a blaze and white feet." Abu al-Mughira told us, Muhammad b. al-Muhajir told us, Aqil b. Shabib told us from Abu Wahb al-Kala'i, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said - and he mentioned the like of its meaning. Muhammad said: I do not know whether he began with the dark-bay or the black. He said: And they asked him why he preferred the chestnut. He said: "Because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent out a raiding party, and the first one to come with news of victory was the rider of the chestnut horse."
