حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ طَارِقَ بْنَ شِهَابٍ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَغَزَوْتُ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ بِضْعًا وَأَرْبَعِينَ أَوْ بِضْعًا وَثَلَاثِينَ مِنْ بَيْنِ غَزْوَةٍ وَسَرِيَّةٍ و قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا وَأَرْبَعِينَ مِنْ غَزْوَةٍ إِلَى سَرِيَّةٍ.

Abd al-Rahman told us, from Shu'bah - and Ibn Ja'far said: Shu'bah told us, from Qays ibn Muslim, who said: I heard Tariq ibn Shihab say: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I fought during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and Umar in some forty-odd or some thirty-odd campaigns, between raids and expeditions - and Ibn Ja'far said: thirty-three or forty-three, from raids to expeditions.
