Waki' and Ibn Ja'far told us, they said: Shu'bah told us, from Sulayman ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Ubayd ibn Fayruz, the freed slave of Banu Shayban, in his account, he said: I asked al-Bara' ibn Azib what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked among sacrificial animals, or what he forbade regarding sacrificial animals. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood among us - and he said, his hand was longer than mine, or he said my hand was shorter than his - and said: "Four kinds of animals are not permissible as sacrifices: the one-eyed whose defect is clearly apparent, the sick one whose sickness is clearly apparent, the lame one whose limp is clearly apparent, and the emaciated one which has no marrow." I said to al-Bara': We also dislike that there be a deficiency in the ear, or a deficiency in the eye, or a deficiency in the teeth. He said: Whatever you dislike, then leave it, but do not forbid it to others.
