Isma'il told us, from Yunus, from al-Hasan, that al-Nu'man b. Bashir wrote to Qays b. al-Haytham: "You are our brothers and kin, but we witnessed what you did not witness, and we heard what you did not hear. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: 'Before the Hour there will be tribulations like pieces of dark night; a man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever by evening, and people will sell their share of faith for a small worldly gain.'"
