حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ امْرَأَةً أَخْطُبُهَا فَقَالَ اذْهَبْ فَانْظُرْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِنَّهُ أَجْدَرُ أَنْ يُؤْدَمَ بَيْنَكُمَا قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ فَخَطَبْتُهَا إِلَى أَبَوَيْهَا وَأَخْبَرْتُهُمَا بِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَأَنَّهُمَا كَرِهَا ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَسَمِعَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ وَهِيَ فِي خِدْرِهَا فَقَالَتْ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تَنْظُرَ فَانْظُرْ وَإِلَّا فَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكَ كَأَنَّهَا أَعْظَمَتْ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهَا فَتَزَوَّجْتُهَا فَذَكَرَ مِنْ مُوَافَقَتِهَا.

Abdul Razzaq told us, Sufyan informed us from Asim al-Ahwal from Bakr ibn Abdullah al-Muzani from al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah who said: I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and mentioned to him a woman I intended to propose to. He said, "Go and look at her, for it is more likely to bring about harmony between the two of you." He said, So I went to a woman from the Ansar and proposed to her through her parents, and told them of the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, but it seemed they disliked that. He said, Then the woman heard that while she was in her private chamber, and said, "If the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, has commanded you to look, then look; otherwise I adjure you" - as though she considered that a grave matter for him. He said, So I looked at her and married her, and he mentioned something of her agreeableness.
