حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَتَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ رِضًا بِمَا طَلَبَ حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ قَالَ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ يُونُسَ.

It was narrated to us by Yunus, who said: it was narrated to us by Hammad — that is, Ibn Salamah — from Asim, from Zirr, from Safwan ibn Assal, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Indeed the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he has sought." It was narrated to us by Surayj, who said: it was narrated to us by Abd al-Wahid, from Abu Rawq Atiyyah ibn al-Harith, who said: it was narrated to us by Abdullah ibn Khalifah, from Safwan ibn Assal, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent us out on a military detachment, and he mentioned a hadith similar to that of Yunus.
