حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَقِيلٍ زُهْرَةُ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ وَكَانَ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَذَهَبَتْ بِهِ أُمُّهُ زَيْنَبُ ابْنَةُ حُمَيْدٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَايِعْهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ صَغِيرٌ فَمَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ وَدَعَا لَهُ وَكَانَ يُضَحِّي بِالشَّاةِ الْوَاحِدَةِ عَنْ جَمِيعِ أَهْلِهِ.

It was narrated to us by Abdullah ibn Yazid, it was narrated to us by Sa'id - that is, Ibn Abi Ayyub - it was narrated to me by Abu Aqil Zuhrah ibn Ma'bad al-Taymi, from his grandfather Abdullah ibn Hisham, who had met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); his mother Zaynab bint Humayd took him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, take his pledge of allegiance." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is young," then he wiped his head and prayed for him. And he used to sacrifice a single sheep on behalf of the whole of his household.
