Rawh told us, Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram told us, he said: I heard Shahr ibn Hawshab say: Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm told me, that al-Dari used to give a gift each year to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, of a skin-container of wine. In the year it was prohibited, he brought a container as usual. When the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, looked at it, he laughed and said, "Are you aware that it has been prohibited since you last brought it?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I not sell it and benefit from its price?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "May Allah curse the Jews; they went to what was forbidden to them of the fat of cattle and sheep, melted it down, and made it into a price, so they sold with it what they otherwise ate. Indeed wine is forbidden and its price is forbidden; indeed wine is forbidden and its price is forbidden; indeed wine is forbidden and its price is forbidden." Hashim ibn al-Qasim told us, he said: Abd al-Hamid told us, he said: Shahr told us, from Ibn Ghanm, that al-Dari used to give a gift to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he mentioned the same meaning, except that he said, "They melted it down and made it into rendered fat, and sold with it what they ate."
